Between 1981 and 2004 he was a member of "Solidarity." From 1991-1992 he was part of a group of consultants for Citizens Parliamentary Club. Professor Zaleski is also a member of the Middle-East Europe Institute, the Psychological Science Committee at the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Polish State Accreditation Commission. In addition, he is the founder of the Association for European Cooperation. The Association's activity is now focused on informing secondary schools pupils about the importance of learning foreign languages and on the existence of international student exchanges. Profess Zaleski has been a representative of the Polish-English Association for the Region of Lublin for the past 8 years. During this time he has been organising language classes in which native English teachers tutor students. In addition, the students stay with families in our region during the summer holidays. Currently, he is preparing a similar initiative teaching the German language with the cooperation of the Brandenburg local government and a number of German MEPs. Since 2002, he has participated on a European team that analyses implementation of initiatives for innovation. They also focus on the development of small-medium enterprises with an aid of simple technologies. In the region of Lublin, this form of entrepreneurship, especially in the field of agriculture and food industry, is a priority and needs to be supported. Outcomes of the analysis will be used by the European Union in the policy making process for small-medium enterprises in the developing regions. The region of Lublin can prepare and act upon an appealing offer of foodstuffs for the European markets. Prof. Zaleski, while being a councillor at Lublin County Council, supported economic initiatives that created work opportunities for the graduates and students. The Professor would like for his region of Lublin to become treated as equal to those on the other side of the river Rhine.
